Most people know China as a manufacturing hub but what about the rest of Asia?
Here's the overview.
* Japan - Higher quality die-cast toys for collectors (as opposed to the cheaper plastic kind intended to be broken, played with by kids and easily replaced for the US), gachapon (capusule toys) as well, home to giants such as Sony as well as Toys + video game combined empires like Nintendo and Bandai Namco. The semiconductor and electronics industry isn't what it used to be and Japan's culture of pride and perfection in physical workmanship (monozukuri) blinded them to software and AI revolutions driving the US and China today.
* Vietnam - Primarily an interconnected garment industry but also increasingly a place where giants like Samsung (they have their own manufacturing city in the country!) and Apple make things like phones and airpods. Vietnam doesnt have the shipping, power and scale logistics yet to handle China scale work which is why unlike with China, smaller scale Kickstarter jobs would be more welcome and gratefully received. This is echoed throughout all the other Asian countries as China sucked the manufacturing air out of the room/planet.
* Thailand - Known as the "Detroit of Asia" with a thriving but declining auto industry that was seeded by Japan now making way for EV's and batteries. What is little known is that there is also a domestic electronics industry focusing on less glamorous things such as the majority of mechanical hard drives made as well as and routers, USB charging powerboards and such. There are also apparel, wellness and furniture industries that largely specialize. Thailand is also reknowned for its food world wide and along with Malaysia for having some of the most delicious spicy food and snacks in the region.
* Malaysia - Historically known for palm oil and rubber but has been the biggest semiconductor export ecosystem outside of Taiwan for decades now. Malaysia produces Intel i3 processors as well as the leading edge AMD processors in consoles like the Xbox. Malaysia is also "a bit of a foodie place" and in addition to having great snacks and drinks, is starting to build a reputation for itself for being the best chocolatiers in SE Asia.
* Korea - more a cultural exporter with things like K-Pop and K-Drama nowadays than a physical manufacturing powerhouse. That being said, the best TV panels and memory chips now come from Korea and they have a relative monopoly on such technology
Hopefully this gives you a glimpse that despite common perceptions, China is not the only source for everything.
